TMS 4th Quarter In-Person Learning Update

At the February 25th Board meeting, we took forward the plan to bring back our 6-12th grade students 4 days a week for in-person instruction, starting on Monday, March 15th.  Our current district positivity rate and quarantine numbers support the return to in-person learning. Students will attend in-person learning Monday-Thursday, with Friday remaining a remote learning day.

Below is our schedule at TMS:
Picture
Our new block schedule arrangement and the remote day will allow for a reduced number of students being quarantined. In addition, our schedule will stay essentially the same as it is now, allowing more consistency for students and staff at the secondary level. This schedule also allows us to pivot back to the hybrid schedule, if absolutely necessary.

Annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Beginning February 3, students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the ninth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. You can read the entire letter here.

2020 TMS Athletics Update

With the IESA, Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Illinois Governor's Office collaborating together, many of the sports offered to students at TMS have had their season's altered. While softball and cross country are currently active this fall, many other sports have had their traditional season changed. One example is TMS girls basketball. Girls basketball season usually starts in the Fall (late August) for IESA middle schools, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the season has been shifted to the spring.

To make things a little bit more clear, we have created this one-sheet document that details when each season will begin for practices/tryouts, games, and when the season is scheduled to end.

Please contact Mr. Jeff Ochs, our TMS athletic director, or Adam Miller, principal, with any questions you may have.

Illinois Department of Public Health Message on Vaping

The Illinois Department of Public Health recently released information to all schools regarding the vaping epidemic in Illinois. The message reads, in part,

Last week, IDPH learned of the death of an individual who had recently vaped and was hospitalized with severe respiratory illness. The number of cases of people reported to IDPH who have used e-cigarettes or vaped and have been hospitalized with respiratory symptoms has doubled in the past week. As of 8/23/19, a total of 22 people in Illinois, ranging in age from 17-38 years, have experienced respiratory illness after using e-cigarettes or vaping.

E-cigarette use is epidemic in the US and Illinois.

Parents and students, please consider reading this one page document on vaping and the dangers it presents to young people.

Our partners at Chestnut Health Systems have also put together some additional resources for schools, students, and parents regarding vaping, tips on how to quit.
